A pleural biopsy is a medical procedure used to obtain a small sample of tissue from the pleura, the thin membrane surrounding the lungs and lining the chest cavity. This biopsy is typically performed when there are concerns about conditions affecting the pleura, such as infections, cancer (like mesothelioma or metastatic lung cancer), or inflammatory diseases (such as pleuritis or lupus).
